The 34 km champion of the Republic between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene confirmed his affiliation with the time trial elite. The 27-year-old CCC member was first after reaching the finish line, but as soon as he took the place of the leader in front of the TV cameras, his time was erased by two-time world champion Rohan Dennis.

Even the Australian did not last long in the lead, because just like last Saturday he outclassed his opponent Gann. The world champion from Imola set a time of 42:40 and scored the third winning stage at this year’s Giro.

Giro breathed a sigh of relief. All tests for coronavirus negative, go ahead!

Second Dennis lost 26 seconds to his Ineos teammate. American Brandon McNulty finished third with a gap of 1:09 minutes, whose excellent time trial catapulted him to fourth place in the overall standings. Two seconds behind McNulty was the fourth Belgian Thomas De Gendt and another five seconds lost Black.

The Prague native lost to champion Ganna by 1:16 minutes and he was seven seconds short of the imaginary podium. Even so, after two sixth places at last year’s and this year’s Giru, he scored the best result on the Grand Tour. He moved to 86th place in the standings.

The possible attack of rivals on the pink jersey was sovereignly deflected by Almeida, who finished six and a half minutes behind Ganna. Thanks to this, he increased his lead over the Dutch Wilc Kelderman, who was ninth today, to 56 seconds.

On Sunday, the 22-year-old debut on the Grand Tour will face a difficult mountain test in the 15th stage, which ends after 185 km of climbing the mountain resort of Piancavallo. Other challenging climbs are on the program in the next final week of Gira.
