Grandparents in court for the abduction and murder of a grandchild

The prosecutor of the Jelgava Prosecutor’s Office has brought a criminal case against a woman on charges of accepting childbirth, abducting and killing her granddaughter.
According to the decision, in the night of April 4, 2019, in Jelgava region, the accused, who had medical education, gave birth to her granddaughter at her home. She did not call an ambulance and angrily abducted the newborn baby and took her away from home. The accused woman then murdered the infant under unexplained circumstances.
The person is accused according to Section 153, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law and Section 117, Paragraphs 2 and 5 of the Criminal Law.
The case has been transferred to Zemgale District Court (Jelgava).
The Prosecutor’s Office points out that no person is considered guilty until the guilt in committing a criminal offense has been established in accordance with the procedures specified in the Criminal Procedure Law.
