Governors discuss vaccination with President López Obrador

After two hours of meeting with the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and his Health cabinet, the majority of the country’s governors agreed to accelerate the work for the federalization of health services through the IMSS Welfare and reinforce the campaign of vaccination against covid-19 during this month of April with more than 3 million doses available, in prevention of a new outbreak.

Upon leaving the National Palace, the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri, reported that the request of the federal president was to work together to apply the booster doses for the lagging population, which includes those over 14 years of age.

“They ask us not to trust each other, that a strong outbreak may come, that it is important to have the vaccination and to have the third vaccine.”

-The fourth dose was raised?

“Yes, of course, that all those who have had their three doses who have not had the vaccine for more than four months can be vaccinated again – they do not call it a fourth dose – if you have your three doses and you have not had the vaccine for more than four months to be vaccinated they recommend them”.

In the case of Querétaro, 60,000 vaccines will be available, the State of Mexico, 500,000, San Luis Potosí 100,000 and Mexico City 350,000.

Meanwhile, the governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, clarified that on the subject of the federalization of health services, there are 10 states where this program started, which is not mandatory, as the president himself clarified.

“The president was very clear that he will not remove federal shares from those who do not decide to submit to this new scheme. It is a very strong decision that must be studied and it depends on each one of us, regarding the matter of how we are in infrastructure, supply of medicines, our personnel, contracts and basifications, ”he said.

For his part, Ricardo Gallardo, from San Luis Potosí, supported the project for the federal government to take charge of health services in his entity.

“And it will be a universal system for everyone, the IMSS-Wellness is the one that would take control of medical services, all the hospitals in San Luis Potosí would become IMSS-Wellness and with that we would have medicines free, better equipment and above all the federalization of the payroll that no one has touched and it is very important because legal certainty is given to all workers in all states so that they are federal payrolls and not state payrolls, the rights would be respected they have,” he said.

The Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, stressed that the vaccination strategy will be reinforced starting this week. In the case of the federalization of health services, she reported that they remain at the work table with the administration of President López Obrador to advance on this issue.

The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, pointed out that during the meeting at the National Palace it was reported that there are at least 10 states that make up the first stage of federalization of health services, through Social Security.

“Of course, in our case, we have already signed an agreement with the IMSS so that all the centers, health instances that today provide care to the open population are now incorporated into the IMSS-Wellness program and, in this way, take charge of the updating, rehabilitation , the incorporation of more personnel, equipment and above all, timely supply of medicines”, he highlighted.

Regarding vaccination, he pointed out that there will be 120,000 new doses that will be available for Sonorans who lack their reinforcement and with it “close the pandemic stage,” he said.

In the meeting in which the majority of governors were present, the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer, the director of the IMSS, Zoe Robledo and of the ISSSTE, Pedro Zenteno, as well as officials from the Secretaries of National Defense and the Navy, responsible of the coordination of the National Vaccination Campaign.

The IMSS Bienestar medical care model started in the states of Tlaxcala and Nayarit and will later be extended to San Luis Potosí, Sonora and most states in the country.
