Governor Hochul declares a State of Emergency in NY before the rains intensify – Telemundo New York (47)

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a State Disaster Emergency Monday night, before rains intensify in the tri-state area through Wednesday morning.

The governor warned that four or more inches of rain is expected, which can cause flash flooding in several areas.

Hochul said he decided to declare the emergency “proactively” before the storm worsens, this to ensure that New York State can “provide the necessary resources to respond to this storm and protect lives and property in regions where the forecast indicates a lot of rain ”.

The statement covers the counties of the Bronx, Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Kings, Montgomery, Nassau, New York, Orange, Otsego, Putnam, Queens, Staten Island, Rockland, Schenectady, Schoharie, Suffolk, Sullivan, Tioga, Ulster, Westchester and contiguous counties.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood alert from Monday night through Wednesday, while high winds could also affect homes and businesses, likely Tuesday afternoon.

Residents should stay prepared until Wednesday afternoon, according to a flash flood watch issued by the National Weather Service.

“I am encouraging New Yorkers to prepare now for the inclement weather that is expected in the coming days and urging travelers to take precautions before the heavy rains that are expected tomorrow morning,” said Hochul.

Hochul has ordered several state agencies to prepare for any kind of impact.

State agencies to prepare include the Department of Transportation, the Highway Authority, the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Department of Public Service, the New York State Police, New York Power Authority / Canal Corporation, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Port Authority.
