Thrissur: Government employees and teachers are under treatment due to Medicep. In many hospitals which were included in the earlier list, the notices that the Medisep service is not available have been posted since January. Employees are worried that withdrawal of multispecialty hospitals will hinder good treatment.

The current crisis has crossed 1000 crores where the insurance benefit was estimated to be 700 crores.

Many private hospitals charge upfront for treatment that should be provided free of cost. This is against the stated purpose of Medizep. With the introduction of the Medisep facility, the government has waived the reimbursement. Earlier, the treatment cost was almost fully reimbursed.

The organizations are united in wanting to maintain the Medisep benefit. Medicep is present in 553 hospitals. So far 5,20,780 people have benefited through this. Of these, 4,78,682 are in private hospitals. 4,75,212 claims have been accepted. 11,03,85,10,564 insurance has been sanctioned so far. Out of this Rs.10,34,45,03,859 is for private hospitals.

There are about 1500 hospitals in the organization. Many prominent hospitals were added by the government under pressure. The insurance company has informed about the suspension of ten hospitals from the scheme. The project was implemented without studying the practicalities scientifically. -Kerala Private Hospital Association Secretary Husainkoya Thangal says.

The government should also pay an equal share

The amount taken by the employees to maintain the insurance scheme should also be paid by the government.

-Chavara Jayakumar, President, N.G.. Association

Trouble with private hospitals

The reason is the problem between the insurance company and the hospitals. There are many trends which are not right on the part of private hospitals.
