After all, you could expect a bit more from the team from Zielona Góra during the ANWIL Basketball Cup 2020. Stelmet he is clearly far from in shape and it is unlikely that he will jump into high gear (especially in attack) in a moment during the Super Cup match. Pros
Defense intensity – In this regard, Stelmet was impressive last season and there are many indications that this will be the case now. Pressure on the entire court, putting pressure on the dribbling player, great motility of peripheral players and physical domination – in PLK there is no other team that has all these advantages at once.
Tercet Iffe Lundberg, Marcel Ponitka i Daniel Szymkiewicz might be the most annoying defensive perimeter kit in the league. Anyone can cover players from position 1 to 3, everyone pushes across the floor, everyone is strong and dynamic, everyone fights on the boards. Even if Stelmet does not take the ball from his opponents, he will delay their attack this way, and this should be noted on the side of successes.
Geoff Groselle – maybe it was not as effective as expected, maybe it has not dominated yet as if it could, but one thing is certain – it has great potential. The American will have an advantage in practically every duel with the middle players in PLK. He is mobile, clever, can move defensively and is active on the board under attack.
However, there are still gaps in his game with the playmakers. At the end of the meeting with Asseco Arek, Łukasz Koszarek he showed twice how easy and fun a 2-person game with Groselle can be. Perhaps it is in tandem with Captain Stelmet that the American should appear more often than with Iffe Lundberg, who is definitely not a good passer like Koszarek.
Minusy
Strong wingers – in case of The pair of Blake Reynolds and Filip Put’s biggest concern is the physicality of these players. Reynolds looks a bit like a four in a three body and can be in a lot of trouble with higher rivals. Put, in turn, cannot be denied strength, but a few centimeters may already be short of him, especially since he has minutes ahead of him in position 5, where Stelmet has no substitute yet, and only an alliance to this role by Przemysław Karnowski.
A big question mark is also the possibilities of both in the attack. Tony Meier, who was originally intended for the team, was a sure thing at a distance, and he played with his back to the basket at least well. You could easily expect 12-15 points from Meier every game – in the case of the Reynolds-Put pair, you can worry about such consistency.
Uncertain shooters – Last season, Stelmet’s throwing was fantastic for 3 points – the most on target (11.5) and the best efficiency (41.7%) in the league. The ball passed from hand to hand, and clean positions were ruthlessly converted into points. Now, however, there are no such reliable shooters in Zielona Góra.
Szymkiewicz is not Zamojski, Berzins is not Zyskowski, Williams is not King, and Reynolds is not Meier and this is not a controversial statement, the numbers of all these players from previous seasons speak for it. The lack of a steady hand on the perimeter of Stelmet can be a problem in the attack, which includes exposed the match with Start Lublin. Inaccurate three-pointers will mean a difficult game with Groselle, but they will also limit the entry to the basket of Lundberg or Ponitka.
Preseason However, it has to do with the fact that players usually lack efficiency and it goes up with the following weeks. The only question is, to what extent can it really go up? You can have a lot of doubts here.
