Gonzalo storm is heading west to the south of the country

Tropical storm Gonzalo moved yesterday afternoon near latitude 10.0 north and longitude 47.0 west, 1,370 kilometers east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles arc.

Gonzalo is expected to continue to fluctuate in intensity and become a category one hurricane in the next 48 hours.

It currently has maximum sustained winds of 95 km / h and its movement is west at 22 km / h.

Due to the course of its movement, it offers no danger to the country and the rains should decrease from today on the entire southern coast.

The tropical wave that generated intense rainfall in the last hours, leaves the forecast area of ​​the Dominican Republic today, so there will be a gradual reduction in rainfall, especially towards the regions located in the southern portion of the country, the National Office reported. of Meteorology (Onamet).

The Onamet maintains the recommendation to the entire population to avoid exposing themselves to solar radiation for a long time from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and to consume enough liquids and wear light clothes, preferably in light colors.

Similarly, it continues to urge the entire population to ration water, due to the rainfall deficit that has affected the country for several months.
