Michał Dworczyk: Analyzes of the division of the voivodeship Mazowieckie are advanced

Analyzes and work on the division of the Masovian Voivodeship are already advanced – said the head of the Prime Minister’s office, Michał Dworczyk, on Friday, 24 July 2020. The final decision on this matter will have to be taken by the political leadership of our formation – he added.

In the First Program of Polish Radio, Dworczyk referred to reports on the possibility of dividing the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. As he said, the works and analyzes concerning this division are advanced. It was not a new idea, he added.

The head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister emphasized that in many countries the capital is separated from the voivodeship or region in which it is located. “It is worth considering this in order to make such a division for the benefit of the inhabitants,” he added. “Analytical work is still in progress. The final decisions will have to be taken by the political leadership of our formation” – noted Dworczyk.

“Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” wrote on Thursday that another elections could await us in the fall, as the unofficial findings of the daily show that Law and Justice is in a hurry with the previously announced separation of the capital and its vicinity from the Masovian Voivodeship. The new voivodeship would include the present-day Warsaw plus the adjoining poviats, i.e. bagel. According to the newspaper, the bill on this issue is to be submitted to the Sejm in July.

Marshal of the Masovian Voivodeship Adam Struzik (PSL) said on Thursday that the idea of ​​dividing the voivodeship Mazowieckie is irrational and harmful. In his opinion, this is manipulating the borders of regions for political reasons. Struzik announced that he would defend the integrity of the province. Mazowieckie. The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, assessed on Thursday that the division of Mazovia would be an action of double importance. “If Warsaw was excluded from the entire region, it would be easier for the ruling party to get a better result for the voivodship assembly. A better result for the regional assembly is a chance for governments in the voivodship where the PO-PSL coalition is currently ruling,” Trzaskowski pointed out.

The second issue, he added, is that of local government finances. “Mazovia will become financially dependent without the influence that Warsaw and the neighboring municipalities bring. Financially independent – that is, completely dependent on the support of the government led by PiS people,” warned the president of the capital. Trzaskowski noted that Warsaw and its neighboring municipalities provide 87 percent.
