A clash that could have had far greater consequences. The Daily Mail reports this Saturday that the English Football Federation asked Joe Gomez if he wished to file a complaint against Raheem Sterling, who physically assaulted him in early November during a rally for the England national team. A proposal that the Liverpool defender would have rejected, preferring to quickly bury the hatchet, according to the British media.

The altercation between the two came after Liverpool’s tense victory over Manchester City (3-1) in the Premier League. Their selection teammates had to intervene to separate them. Photos then showed that Joe Gomez was slightly injured in the face.
Sterling did not apologize
Coach Gareth Southgate made the decision to dismiss Raheem Sterling for the first of two games the Three Lions had to play, namely a game against Montenegro in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Raheem Sterling had explained shortly after on his Instagram account to have had “words” with his compatriot. “But we settled the dispute and we moved on to something else. I’m mature enough to admit when my emotions took over,” he wrote, without saying sorry or apologizing.
