Gold smuggling; Customs interrogates two expatriates; Speaker’s SIM is in the name of one of them

Kochi: Customs is questioning two foreigners in connection with a gold smuggling case. Lafeer Mohammed, who works at Middle East College in Muscat, and Nasr Abdullah, a friend of the speaker, are being questioned.

Lafeer Mohammad is being questioned in connection with the visit of Sivashankar and Swapna to Middle East College in Muscat. It is learned that Shivashankar had intervened to give Swapna a job in this college.

Another person questioned by customs is Nas Abdullah, a friend of Speaker P Sriramakrishnan and Minister KT Jaleel. It is named after a sim used by the speaker. This SIM card has been switched off since July when the gold smuggling case came up.

Meanwhile, the court allowed the arrest of M Sivasankar, the former principal secretary to the chief minister, in a case of smuggling dollars abroad. The Ernakulam Economic Investigation Court granted permission to the customs.

Shivshankar is the fourth accused in the case. Shivshankar, the fifth accused in the case registered by the ED, is currently in remand.
