The goalkeeper problem at Fortuna Sittard seems to have been solved by a remarkably fast recovery by Yanick van Osch. The first goalkeeper initially had to fear a weeks or months long elimination due to a bone bruise, but he seems fit in time to defend PSV again on Sunday.
“As it stands now, Yanick seems to be able to goalkeeper”, Fortuna coach Sjors Ultee told Friday. The Telegraph. “We just have to wait and see if there is no reaction to the training he completed today. But it looks good. And we are very happy with that.”
Van Osch sustained his injury two weeks ago in a collision in the final phase of the home game against ADO Den Haag (2-0). At first Fortuna reported that the 23-year-old keeper would be out of circulation for at least a few weeks.
“Because the knee was full of fluid, it was not possible to make an exact diagnosis for a long time,” explains the Limburg club. “The preliminary diagnosis was that it could be a very serious injury, but that it could also be better than expected.

Koselev can still take Van Osch’s place
Should Van Osch not be able to take action, Alexei Koselev will take his place under the bar. The Moldovan has already reached an agreement on a transfer to Júbilo Iwata, but due to the state of emergency in Japan surrounding the corona virus, he will still be available for Fortuna for the time being.
Due to the injury of Van Osch, the transfer of Koselev and the inexperience of third goalkeeper Joshua Wehking, Fortuna had a goalkeeper problem. That is why the club decided to attract Piet Velthuizen. The 33-year-old goalkeeper, however, fell out with a hamstring injury on his debut against FC Groningen (1-0 loss) on Sunday.
Despite the goalkeeper problems, Fortuna Sittard is working on a strong season. Ultee’s team currently occupies ninth place in the Eredivisie. The home game against PSV starts on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. and is led by referee Allard Lindhout.
