Go-Ahead loses Frankenbahn contract for two years | Heilbronn

After persistent problems with the rail operator Go-Ahead, the Ministry of Transport is looking for a new operator for the Frankenbahn. This should take over the route for two years.

Numerous train cancellations and delays had repeatedly annoyed Frankenbahn railway customers in the past few months. The Ministry of Transport is now reacting to the still bad situation. In January, Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann (Greens) warned operator Go-Ahead to fix the quality problems – apparently with little success.

Another operator wanted

Now another operator should temporarily operate the route. This interim solution is planned for two years, said Hermann in a press release on Sunday. The Ministry of Transport is already looking to find a solution as quickly as possible. “I am glad that Go-Ahead is now also open to the problems and is cooperating,” said Hermann. Go-Ahead had only taken over the route last December.

Go-Ahead admits problems

Go-Ahead already admitted the problems on the Frankenbahn to the SWR on Friday. The company said it was in talks and wanted to permanently improve the situation. The press release on Sunday then spoke of an “amicable” solution. This meant the temporary relief provided by another operator. However, the company firmly rejected rumors of a termination of the transport contracts.

Frankenbahn runs over Heilbronn

The Frankenbahn runs from Stuttgart via Heilbronn to Würzburg and back, but also serves the Bad Friedrichshall-Mosbach-Neckarelz branch, which actually belongs to the Neckar Valley Railway. The route of the Frankenbahn is around 180 kilometers long.
