Gnu was the first gaming YouTuber in Germany to break the one million subscriber mark. We’ll tell you what’s behind this success.
Who is Gnu? Jasmin alias Gnu is a trained graphic designer and later graduated with a master’s degree in gaming. She started her YouTube account in March 2015 as a side project to her studies. Since then, more than 1,100 videos have been published there.
However, she is now full-time on YouTube and Twitch. There she shows different games, most recently Among Us, Dead by Daylight and various, sometimes crazy simulators, such as Perfect Wax 3D or the Plastic Surgery Simulator.
Gnu had great success with Fortnite in 2018. Many of their most-watched videos, which have around 2 to 2.5 million views, revolve around the battle royale.
What record has she set now? Gnu was the first German gaming YouTuber to reach one million subscribers. This was announced by the INSTINCT3 agency, to which Gnu, but also creators such as HandOfBlood and Sterzik belong.

There are other German YouTubers who have more subscriptions, such as BibisBeautyPalace (5.92 million subscriptions) or Dagi Bee (3.96 million subscriptions), but these are about topics other than gaming.
In addition to YouTube, Gnu is also active on Twitch. There she is one of the biggest streamers in Germany with over 300,000 followers.
Why is that so special in gaming? How Gameswirtschaft reports, the German gaming YouTube is also mainly dominated by men.
This is also shown by our list of the 10 biggest gaming YouTubers in Germany in 2021. According to the games industry, even the top 25 in Germany should be filled entirely by men.
Male streamers also dominate on Twitch in Germany.
This picture now seems to be changing slowly but steadily. The fact that Gnu is now the first woman to crack the 1 million as a gaming YouTuber can be seen as a sign of this.
On February 12th, Gnu highlighted the increasing relevance of gaming among women and girls on their Twitter. According to their statistics, almost 50% of their followers are female.

“Gaming, cringe and cosplay with heart and soul”
What makes Gnu so special? In their videos and live streams, Gnu is very open and also addresses topics that are not in the comfort zone of all content creators.
- In an interview here on MeinMMO, she spoke about sexism in the gaming industry and reported on her own experiences.
- On another, personal YouTube account, she talks about topics such as self-doubt, bullying and cosmetic surgery, which she originally performed and has since had it reversed.

On the other hand, she can also do a lot of nonsense in her videos and be self-deprecating – for example when it comes to different “types of gamers: inside” or when she dances Fortnite dances in real life.
How successful is Gnu? Overall, she comes with her videos on the Main channel Gnu to over 180 million views. In addition, it operates the channels Verspieltes Gnu (11 million views) and the private channel Jasmin KO, already mentioned, with 1.8 million views.

that was just really epic :). I found her trough HandOfBlood’s Channel and she had around 800.000 and gained the rest to 1 million in a few days after she recorded a video with HandOfBlood.
