Globetrotter couple want to conquer Mallorca with moss installations

Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Bahrain, the USA, Australia, every now and then Germany – to name just a few stations. Claudia and Klaus Kruppel from Grevenbroich in North Rhine-Westphalia are real globetrotters. They have lived in many countries around the world since their wedding 25 years ago. As an IT expert in sales, the now 61-year-old was able to set up several locations and branches around the world for various employers.

And Claudia? She accompanied her husband across the continents. The trained social security specialist changed saddles over time and was able to do her husband like that as secretary support. “So we were one rehearsed team“, says Claudia Kruppel. After their last stop in Australia, where they lived for twelve years, the two have been able to call another place their new home since the beginning of the year: Mallorca.

The couple had already had the idea of moving to the island a few years ago. While Klaus Kruppel was in New Zealand for an assignment, his wife decided to stay for a while Germany against the Balearic Island to swap. “We knew Mallorca from various vacations – and I just didn’t feel like sitting in Germany,” said the 55-year-old. While her husband was working on the other side of the world, she looked for an apartment in Campanet, packed her things and moved to the island. Klaus Kruppel followed shortly afterwards.

But a little later, the two set off again – first to the USA, then to Australia. But the love for Mallorca stayed. And so, after their work Down Under, both moved to the island again after twelve years at the beginning of 2020. In Cala Ratjada since then they have lived in a row house.

At the time, the couple could not have suspected that the restart on the island would be anything but normal. Because only shortly after they moved in, the Corona-Pandemie Mallorca also largely came to a standstill. Klaus Kruppel had just started as an IT expert at a large company in Cala Ratjada when the Lockdown came. It was actually planned that Claudia should join the company’s event department.

But because of the crisis, this plan failed. Klaus Kruppel only stayed with the employer for a short time and has now become a self-employed certified management consultant made. He advises companies on digitization via online meetings. “Thanks to Zoom & Co. that I can do it that way without having to fly back and forth,” says the IT specialist.

In the meantime, the couple actually wanted to go back to Australia, where the two still have their own house. But: “Australia is currently not letting us in because of Corona”, says Klaus Kruppel. In addition to the German passport, they also have an Australian passport. And so Claudia has revived her old passion because of the limited travel options. In Australia she successfully had her own for several years Floristry business. The highlight in your program: Installations made of moss. Thanks to a special process in which the plants are treated with glycerine, they stay fresh, even become dust-repellent and do not need water or light. The florist uses them to create murals – no longer in Australia, but on Mallorca.

Two of these eye-catchers are already hanging in two hotels on the island. Actually, more should be added. But since many hotels had to close prematurely due to the Corona crisis, these orders were also canceled. Instead of getting annoyed about it, the globetrotter has come up with a new idea: Since there are hardly any shops on Mallorca that classic advent wreaths make, she has created exactly such an offer. It also sells candles and other gifts that it has made itself over the Internet. And then next year she wants to open her own shop. Sounds almost like Mallorca is more than just another short stop. “We can certainly imagine staying here. Because we feel good here – despite Corona.”
