“It is still very exciting how it will all go,” Deputy Mayor Maaike Veeningen tells Omroep Flevoland. “Also concerns. We hope, of course, that everything will be alright, but that remains to be seen. ”
The pair were part of a group of six children who were on the water on a raft. They pulled themselves from one side of the ditch to the other using ropes. At one point the raft turned and the two children ended up underneath. Bystanders took the girls out of the water.
“It is terrible what happened here. We do not yet know how it happened, for that we have to wait for the police investigation, ”said Veeningen. The raft was taken out of the water for research. Another raft in Almere that works in the same way was already out of use, but is also being investigated.
