Gibraltar says goodbye to covid masks and curfew | Coronavirus | DW

Spanish media reported this Monday that, with 70 percent of the population vaccinated in that area, Gibraltar stopped requiring the use of masks on public roads as of Sunday, March 28.

In total, 24,000 people have been vaccinated in Gibraltar, and it is expected that by mid-April the entire vaccinated population will be completed.

Gibraltarian hospitals are also not registering new admissions, and residences for the elderly are reported free of contagion in Gibraltar.

The local newspaper Area reports that, in addition, restrictions on nightlife have already been lifted in the Rock: bars and restaurants can open until two in the morning as of last weekend.

Mask-free alert

However, all this does not mean the total lifting of measures against covid in Gibraltar. The use of masks is still mandatory in closed spaces, shops and public transport.

Gibraltar’s Minister of Civil Contingencies, Samantha Sacramento, is quoted by the newspaper Area advising the population not to lower their guard despite the hopeful indications about the covid pandemic in that area. It is necessary that the population “continue to follow the advice and guidance of public health so that we can continue to keep the numbers low,” says the official.
