Giant from Semmering, Bassino second behind Vlhova in the first heat

An extraordinary Marta Bassino is in the running for success in the giant of Semmering, Austria. The 24-year-old from Piedmont is second at 22/100 from the leader of the Cup standings, the Slovak Petra Vlhova, the fastest in the first heat (1’02 ”15). And below the second behind there are only three other athletes: Michelle Gisin (third at 35/100), Mikaela Shiffrin (fourth at 59/100) and Sara Hector (fifth at 74/100). Federica Brignone did not get it right, finished at 1 ”71 without ever being able to catch the pace. It is eighth behind Gut and Worley.

Marta paid for an imperfection at the end of the track, but otherwise she gave another demonstration of being the technical leader of the specialty. “I am quite satisfied, although there were a couple of points where I fell asleep a bit and had to react. It’s a very open race, in the second you have to attack at all ”commented Bassino, already winner in Soelden and Courchevel.
