Start with one defeat the journey in Serie A of the new Torino of Marco Giampaolo, who approaches the 2020/2021 championship with a 1-0 at Fiorentina. The goal scored by Castrovilli in the 78th minute was decisive for the Viola. For the grenade some good indications, but the distinct feeling of still being in the middle of a revolution. AL 45′ – Fiorentina and Turin open Serie A 2020/2021 with a great desire to redeem themselves after a previous championship below expectations. Among the most inspired by the Franks there is the usual Belotti, able to warn 2/3 of Fiorentina’s defensive line in the first minutes of play. After a first scarecrow by Kouame (header finished just wide), it is Berenguer who puts the first shot on goal of the match on the scoresheet. Nice assist from Linetty, but the former Osasuna misses an excellent opportunity face to face with Dragowski. The match is balanced and in full recovery – at 46 ‘- it is Sirigu who has to put a patch on Kouame’s header. Great intervention by the granata defender, which allows Turin to return to the locker room with the result still at 0-0.
AL 90′ – Ready to go and the second half opens immediately with a goal canceled against Fiorentina. Change of game of Chiesa, who draws Biraghi from the other side of the field. The former Inter player kicks hard and beats Sirigu with the help of a deviation from Izzo. Abisso’s assistant, however, cancels everything for Biraghi’s offside, who ended up off-side following a slight deviation by Castrovilli at the time of the assist. It is the prelude to a dominance of the Fiorentina field which is more and more clear as the minutes pass. The only dangerous action of Torino comes from a trivial mistake of the viola. At 61 ′ Zaza takes advantage of Ribery’s naivety and starts on the counterattack in the open field. The former Valencia starts well, but then it wastes sensationally the three against one that came to be created by far mistaking the extent of the passage for Belotti. Fiorentina picks up the thread of the conversation and crushes Giampaolo’s team within their own half. Pressure that turns into a goal in the 78th minute, when Castrovilli cuts behind Izzo and supports the cross from Chiesa’s feet. Torino is deservedly under and unable to react. The only occasion is the one built by Lukic in the 83rd minute, who steals the ball and leans on Zaza: his unrealistic right goes out in Dragowski’s arms. Giampaolo tries to insert Millico by moving to 4-4-2. In the final there is a (late) start from Torino that leads to a goal canceled (rightly) to Belotti for offside. It ends like this: Fiorentina beats Torino by measure, but deservedly in the debut match of Serie A 2020/2021. A match that confirms the feeling that was already understood in the pre-season: Giampaolo’s team is still a work in progress.
