Get to know AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution Technology Competitors Nvidia

Jakarta: At Computex Taipei 2021 AMD announced their latest innovation which is claimed to be a competitor to Nvidia DLSS, namely AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). This technology is said to both support the resolution of playing games up to 4K size through upscaling.

So games that are played (rendering) at low resolutions can appear like 4K resolution, aka upscaling. The effect of course makes the graphics quality higher and spoils the eyes of players. But actually AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution is different.

Although it doesn’t use AI or machine learning capabilities like Nvidia DLSS, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution is claimed in a presentation at Computex 2021 can offer frame rates three times higher than its competitors.

The good news is that AMD provides support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution technology with an open source concept and can support all AMD Radeon graphics cards including the integrated GPU in AMD processors. However, in the early stages of its presence on June 22, this technology will only support the AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series, RX 5000 Series.

So game developers who want to use this technology just add it to their game coding without having to have a special partnership with AMD.

Different from Nvidia, which presents Nvidia DLSS only in the Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 Series and RTX 30 Series and only in certain partnered games.

Not only that, AMD also claims AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution also supports Nvidia graphics cards. However, AMD emphasizes that it is up to Nvidia to provide this support to its users.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution will be released on June 22 equipped with various features in it.

AMD itself claims that there are already a number of games that have adopted this technology. This capability will still be present on PC, not yet on the Xbox Series X and PS5 which are known to use GPUs from AMD.
