German Police Officers Investigated for Corruption Involving Currywurst Bribes

A total of 17 German police officers are being investigated for corruption.

They are suspected of having allowed themselves to be bribed with sausages, reports the newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung.

For ten months, the police officers are said to have eaten currywurst at a restaurant in Hamburg – completely free of charge.

The value of the whole thing should have been 2,000 Euro – which corresponds to close to NOK 23,000 at today’s exchange rate.

– Wanted positive reviews

According to the prosecution, it was a speaker, who is employed by a public agency, who paid for the sausage parties.

The police officers being investigated must have attended a course with the person concerned.

Oliver Eisenhauer is the spokesperson for the public prosecutor in Hanover, and he says the following to the German newspaper Bild:

– A speaker from a state company is said to have invited the police officers to eat currywurst at a well-known restaurant after the course had finished. We assume that the person in question was hoping for a positive review of his lecture.

Robert found a hole in the floor: – Moving!

– Obliged

Eisenhauer says that the prosecution has no choice but to investigate the many police officers – and the speaker.

– We are obliged to investigate this, he says.
