German Jews demand stronger protection over Israeli-Palestinian conflict – Abroad – News

Police arrested 16 people after Israeli flags were set on fire in Bonn and Munster on Tuesday night.

The president of the German Central Jewish Council, Joseph Schuster, has accused the radical Palestinian group Hamas of escalating the conflict, saying it has begun to spread outside the Middle East.

“Israel and Jews in general are subject to hatred and incitement, especially on social media. The threat to the Jewish community is taking hold,” Schuster said.

Referring to the incidents in Bonn and Münster, he insisted that the protection of Jewish institutions be strengthened.

“We expect the German people to show solidarity with Israel and the Jewish community,” the president of the Central Jewish Council added.

The number of anti-Semitic crimes in Germany has increased rapidly in recent years, and in 2019, 2,023 such crimes were registered, which is 13% more than a year earlier.
