German Football Association Takes a Stand Against Violence Following the Tragic Death of Young Footballer Paul

In German football, people mourn the loss of young footballer Paul. The death of the Berliner should be remembered – also on the big stage of the Olympic Stadium.

The violent death of the 15-year-old Berlin youth player Paul caused shock in German football. The German Football Association (DFB) wants to take a stand against violence, as stated in a statement on Thursday.

The grief for Paul will also be expressed in the DFB Cup final between RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday in Berlin. The DFB plans to show an appeal against violence on the screen of the Olympic Stadium, accompanied by a stadium announcement and a moment of pause.

Paul from Berlin was initially seriously injured in a fight at a youth tournament in Frankfurt at the weekend. He later died in a clinic. The 16-year-old alleged attacker, who is currently in custody in Hesse, comes from France and took part in the tournament for the youth academy of a French professional club.

Mourning in the Olympic Stadium for dead Berliners

In addition, both teams are to wear black ribbons at the European Championship final of the U17 national teams from Germany and France in Budapest. According to the DFB, the youth players will line up behind a bilingual banner with the message ‘Together against violence’ for a mixed team photo before kick-off on Friday.

Similar campaigns are planned for all relegation and promotion games in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3, as well as the 21 state cup finals scheduled for this weekend. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf called the death of the young Berliner an “incredibly sad and shocking act.”

The Berlin Football Association (BFV) is also taking part in the nationwide commemoration campaign. In addition to the minute’s silence at the state cup final in the Mommsen Stadium between TuS Makkabi and SV Sparta Lichtenberg on Saturday, there should also be a minute’s silence for Paul at other Berlin games.
