If we already knew that Derek Chauvin and George Floyd had worked in the same place, we learn today that the two men did know each other. They even clashed.
George Floyd, this African-American symbol of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, died two weeks ago when he was arrested by four police officers.
Derek Chauvin, the policeman who supported his knee on his neck for almost 9 minutes and caused his death,
was charged with his three colleagues for homicide. Since then, the revelations have been linked. We learned that the two men may have known each other, since Derek Chauvin and George Floyd both worked in the same place, in a night club in Minneapolis. The former police officer worked there as a security guard for 17 years, alongside his job in the police. George Floyd was a bouncer at a dozen parties in 2019. However, so far there has been no evidence that the two have ever encountered each other before. The landlord had also explained that it was unlikely due to their opposite schedule.
But according to the last testimony of one of their colleagues, David Pinney, Floyd and Chauvin not only knew each other, but there had already been a confrontation between the two men. “They clashed. It had a lot to do with Derek’s extremely aggressive behavior in the club towards certain customers. It was a problem,” the third colleague told CBS News. The owner of the night club had also described the police as someone violent, who was aggressive towards black customers.
Following these new elements, the family of George Floyd is convinced that the incident was motivated by a personal reason. The lawyer for the latter therefore requested that the charges against the former police officer be increased and that he be charged with second degree murder.
