Geneva: Under construction, the Dance Pavilion opens its doors – News Switzerland: French-speaking Switzerland

Genevans were able to discover the future Dance Pavilion installed on Place Charles-Sturm, very close to the Russian Church, for the first time on Saturday. Still under construction, this removable structure consists of 84 asymmetrical larch wood frames.

13 million francs

Scaffolding still surrounds the Pavilion, but the undulating lines of the building are already revealed. The works should be finished in May for an opening in September. The place will be managed by the Association for Contemporary Dance (ADC), which has temporarily occupied, since 2004, the municipal hall of Eaux-Vives.

The total amount voted in the City of Geneva for the Dance Pavilion amounts to almost 13 million francs. A referendum had been launched against the construction loan, but opponents of the project had failed to collect the signatures necessary to make it happen.

The works thus started at the beginning of 2019. Once the raft and the concrete placed on the place Charles-Sturm, the big part of the work was done in workshop, indicated Jean Camuzet, architect at ON Architecture, the Lausanne office which won the competition. The prefabricated wooden elements were then assembled on site.

Limited time

The structure 20 meters wide by 51 meters long and 11 meters high is removable and transportable, as required by the specifications. The Pavilion includes a 200-seat room with good acoustics. There will also be a reception area for the public, administrative and technical premises.

The establishment of the Dance Pavilion in the old town is limited to seven years. This provisional duration has been negotiated with residents and is ratified in an agreement. It will then be necessary to discuss again or find another place to host the Pavilion. (Ps / nxp)
