Gemma Collins will be replaced by the Loose Women star after leaving Chicago

Permissive women Panelist Brenda Edwards has been officially announced as Gemma Collins’ replacement in the musical Chicago.

Edwards will play prison guard Mama Morton, the same character she played in her West End debut in 2007. She will join the cast for June and July dates in Sunderland, Cardiff, Blackpool, Sheffield, Norwich and Oxford before leaving the production on July 23.

Aside from her role in the 2007 musical, Edwards also appeared in it Hairspray, carousel and We will Rock You.

She will appear alongside fellow actors Lee Mead (Billy Flynn), Faye Brookes (Roxie Hart), Djalenga Scott (Velma Kelly), Jamie Baughan (Amos Hart) and BE Wong (Mary Sunshine).

That was announced earlier this week TOWIE Alumni Collins was forced to abandon the tour after suffering a knee injury a week before opening night.

A statement from the Chicago Production said: “Gemma Collins management have informed the producers about this Chicago She will no longer appear on the show’s UK tour due to a knee injury.

“The producers of Chicago I wish Gemma all the best for the future.”

News of Edwards joining the musical comes a month after her return to the panel of Permissive women after taking time off to mourn the loss of their son, Jamal Edwards, who passed away in February this year.

Jamal was known as a DJ, YouTuber and entrepreneur responsible for founding SBTV and launching the careers of Stormzy and Ed Sheeran, as well as raising awareness of men’s mental health issues.

Permissive women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
