Gas stations TinQ limit action with cheap refueling because of nuisance

TinQ started the promotion yesterday because the company has been around for twenty years: for four days, at four gas stations in the country, you can refuel for bargain prices for an hour. A better time seemed almost unimaginable, now that the price at the pump is historically high. A liter of petrol costs an average of 2,357 euros. Twenty years ago that was 1,171 euros. For a liter of diesel, the difference was even greater: an average of 2.067 against €0.860 euros.

Grim situations

Yesterday the action started with Venray, Kampen, Ospel and Veenendaal. With great success. Or actually, as TinQ writes today: “The promotions have been too successful. Many happy faces among customers, but at a number of locations traffic jams have arisen due to the extreme crowds. The traffic is many times greater than we could have foreseen, as well as the (fuel) emotion that has led to grim situations in some locations.”

After contacting ‘national and local government authorities’, the company has decided to adjust the promotion. The number of locations will be limited to two per day, and will be announced the day before.

Safety

According to the statement, the company had to make this decision ‘unfortunately due to the uncertainty about guaranteeing road safety at various locations and the safety of our employees and customers’.
