Gas in Europe – two countries opposed demand cuts

The proposal of the European Commission to reduce demand for gas by 15% in the winter, due to the energy crisis, was not supported by the two countries.

The first to speak was Hungary, which had previously stated this publicly. The country questioned the legality of such EU rules, when such decisions affect the country’s energy balance and security.

The second country was Poland, which previously, on the contrary, supported the initiative of the European Commission. Warsaw said that the legal basis for the decision is “defective” and such a step must be taken unanimously.

Recall that earlier EU Council adopted a plan to reduce demand for gas this winter due to the energy crisis provoked by the Russian Federation.
