Ian Gelder, best known for his role as Kevan Lannister in “Game of Thrones,” has tragically passed away at the age of 74.

Gelder’s husband, fellow actor Ben Daniels, confirmed the heartbreaking news through an Instagram post on Tuesday.

According to Daniels, Gelder had been battling bile duct cancer since December, and his condition deteriorated quickly.

A Life and Love Remembered

Daniels expressed his immense sorrow and paid tribute to his late partner of over 30 years. He described Gelder as an incredibly kind, generous, and loving human being who had been his rock.

The couple first met while working together on the set of the British play “Entertaining Mr. Sloane” in 1983 and have been inseparable since then.

Memorable Role in “Game of Thrones”

Gelder portrayed the character Kevan Lannister in the acclaimed TV series “Game of Thrones” for the first six seasons. Kevan was the brother of Tywin Lannister and uncle to Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion Lannister. The character met a tragic end in the explosive Season 6 finale.

A Career Cut Short

Gelder had a prolific acting career spanning several decades, with notable appearances in popular shows like “EastEnders,” “Doctor Who,” and “His Dark Materials.”

Despite his talent and contributions to the entertainment industry, Gelder’s acting work was unfortunately cut short due to his battle with cancer.

The Legacy Lives On

Gelder’s absence in the acting world will be felt, but his work will continue to shine. He will appear in the upcoming seasons of “Interview With the Vampire” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”

The entertainment industry and fans of “Game of Thrones” mourn the loss of Ian Gelder, a remarkable actor who left an indelible mark on the world of television and in the hearts of those who knew and admired his work.
