Game Geralt commented on the departure of Henry Cavill from the series »Vortex

Actor Henry Cavill, who plays the famous witcher Geralt v Netflix seriesunexpectedly announced it the third season will be his last, whether or not a quarter has already been confirmed. He will be replaced in the role by Liam Hemsworth, which fans have not accepted very well, although Geralt’s new rep hasn’t had a chance to convince them yet. Despite mixed reviews and responses to the concept of the series, fans agreed on one thing: Henry Cavill is a great Geralt, and the fact that he himself is a proven fan of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books helps. However, let’s remember that even his casting created embarrassment at the beginning, so we just have to wait for a change, and only then discuss and evaluate. In any case, the departure of Henry Cavill is not only regretted by the public, as the actor and voice actor Doug Cockle, who for a change took over the voice of Geralt in the games, commented on the decision to end the collaboration with Netflix.

Doug Cockle gave a more than positive review of Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt and his general fondness for the series. “Well, I think he’s really sad,” he said on the Eurogamer podcast, when it came to The Witcher series and the discussion of such a significant change in the cast. “Many people are now speculating why he decided to leave, but whatever the reason, I think it’s sad because Henry did such a great job as Geralt of Rivia,” she praised his acting. a collegue. Although both are part of completely different media and their characters are quite different, according to Cockle, both hit it off when they discussed The Witcher together after the series premiere, where the voice actor was invited as the game’s Geralt.

Henry did a great job as Geralt of Rivia.

“We spent a good hour or two talking about the world of The Witcher and who Geralt of Rivia is,” he added of their meeting. Both would have perceived Geralt in a similar way in some respects, for example as regards emotions, which according to them are certainly not lacking in the well-known Butcher of Blaviken, which both reflect in their conception. In addition to Geralt, for example, they also discussed Superman, which became Cavill’s main role and coincidentally returned to it again, although this apparently is not the only reason why serial The Witcher However, at the end of this podcast topic, Cockle wished Liam Hemsworth and the rest of the team good luck in their future work on the series, although he is clearly saddened by Cavill’s departure after season three.

Will Cockle continue to be the Geralt of the game?

But there’s more to The Witcher than just the announced change of actors in the series. Of course, during the conversation with Doug Cockle, the recently announced one was also due to happen remake of the first game since 2007. The role of Geralt of Rivia made the actor famous although he has other voice acting in his portfolio (for example, Chernobog in Smite, Colin in Terminator: Resistance, Victor Vran in the game of the same name, or you can also hear him as a of navigation entries in Euro Truck Simulator 2 or the new Slovakian game Sacred Fire), Geralt will probably forever be considered its most important character. Many people automatically assumed that Geralt’s voice would remain the same, at least in English, but Doug Cockle revealed that he knows nothing more about the game at the moment than the fans.

I don’t know if I will be invited to record the dialogue again.

“I’d like to jump right in,” Cockle said when asked if he’d like to return to his role as Geralt of Rivia. “I don’t know if they’re going to ask me to re-record the dialogue or if they’re going to use The Witcher 1 dialogue,” he commented on his current ignorance of further details. On October 26, a remake of the first Witcher was announced, which is exactly 15 years after the release of the original, but we don’t have much information about it. The entire project is in the early stages of development and being worked on by veterans who worked on the original game, but now appear under the Fool’s Theory banner, while CD Projekt RED provides Jen creative supervision. We also know that we originally knew the remake under the name “Canis Majoris” and that it was created in Unreal Engine 5. That’s the end of the official information for now, and since development is only starting to move slowly, we’ll have to wait for the result for some other flight. After all, that can easily explain why Doug Cockle hasn’t been contacted yet for the voiceover.

The entire dub was basically directed by the same developers.

Recall that the first The Witcher came out in 2007 and is quite a different game from its two sequels. The same goes for the characters and their acting and voice acting. The second and third parts could boast of excellent voice acting, but the first part lags slightly behind in this respect. Cockle himself revealed that he recorded the dub in 2005 and that he has no real directorial role, as the entire dub was basically directed by the developers themselves, who he claimed has never done anything like this before. as demonstrated by his performance. Since then, however, he himself has improved in acting practice and the following plays were already under the supervision of professional directors. Not only will it remake of The Witcher from the point of view it is a completely new game, it could be so also to the listening.

Of course, the possibility of using the original recordings remains, as Cockle himself mentioned, but although it has not been ruled out, in our opinion it is not very likely. The sound quality would not be sufficient, most likely even assuming the developers had a backup of the original recording data. This would lead to a split between image and sound, which is certainly not desirable. Moreover, it can be assumed that the writers will take the original game for granted and here and there will add something, rewrite or change some strange-sounding lines.

Also, in the English original, several voices (such as Triss and Marigold) were changed between the first and second games, which may confuse players who haven’t played the first Witcher. And Cockle himself would then have the opportunity to push his performance even further in case of a new recording. And as an interesting point, we add that he himself almost did not return to the role of Geralt in The Witcher 2. As he himself noted, CD Projekt decided to “start with a clean slate” for the second part, so he had to choose to new Geralt.

We can only speculate for now due to the minimal amount of information and the stage the remake’s development is at, but it’s hard to imagine the makers of CD Projekt deciding to look for a new voice for Geralt. The recording of the voice-over, possibly also of the motion capture, is undoubtedly still a long way off, so perhaps not to worry that yes few years, Doug Cockle was no longer heard in the role of the famous witcher. However, we will feel it at least as early as December, when the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 will finally be released, where Geralt’s third full adventure with a number of improvements awaits us. And finally, The Witcher is on Netflix on December 25th planned the first his next series Witcher: Blood Bondwhich tells a story of a time long before the witchers and the history of Geralt.
