Galicia burns: the fire devastates more than 4,000 hectares, half in Barbanza

A total of 4,032 are the hectares burned in Galicia by seven forest fires that continue without being extinguishedhalf of that extension in the fire that started last Thursday in Cures, in Boiro (A Coruña), which spread through part of the Sierra del Barbanza.

Multiple evictions and several declared outbreaks

“Without being an official statement, much less, the message towards the night is reassuring. For sure (the fire) will rekindle at various points, areas with embers and a lot of smoke will be seen. There are many people watching and alert. The worst is over. Although for me the worst is yet to come. It will be when I go up to A Curota”, comments the alderman in reference to one of the most devastated areas.

The other fires in Galicia

In the rest of Galicia, the fire of Verín (Ourense), originating in ten simultaneous and different foci, is stabilized after burning 600 hectares. In The Pereiroin A Mezquita, in the same province, another one is controlled that burned 150.

Already in Pontevedra, in Justáns, in Ponte Caldelas, there are 350 burned hectares due to a fire still active and with alert level 2 due to the proximity to inhabited areas.

In Going Out, in Caldas, another fire is still active that has burned 450 hectares and that, according to the Xunta, it evolves favorably towards its stabilization.

In Arbo, both the fire of Mourentán (400 hectares calcined) like the one in Barcelona (82).

The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Ruedavisited the Central Fire Coordination Center this Saturday to monitor the firefighting work.
