Flu Shot Does Not Increase Risk of COVID-19

The results of a study conducted by specialists from the Cleveland Clinic (USA), published in Journal of Clinical and Translational Science.

Researchers analyzed data on more than 13,000 patients who were tested for COVID-19 at the clinic from early March to mid-April 2020. More than four thousand of them were vaccinated against flu in the fall or winter of 2019, and the rest are not. Analysis of the information collected showed that having a flu shot is not associated with an increased risk of contracting coronavirus infection, or with the severity of the disease, or with the likelihood of death.

“Our results indicate that this season, despite the pandemic, influenza vaccination should proceed in the same manner as usual,” stressed lead author of the study, pulmonologist Joe Zein.
