Samsung Electronics has registered three smartphone models in China, where the camera design is clearly inspired by the Galaxy S21 series.
At the beginning of this year, Samsung announced its new S-series series, consisting of three models, the Galaxy S21, from S21 More and the S21 Ultra. All three smartphones are equipped with a newly designed camera system, where the camera island in a peculiar way extends to the frame on the side and top of the device. It gives the S21 series a unique and stylish character.

With half a year to go before the S22 series is announced, this naturally raises the question; will be expected in the coming year Samsung Galaxy S22 series be provided with a similar camera design?
Samsung Galaxy S21 camera design varianten
On February 9, 2021, Samsung Electronics filed a design patent application with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The documentation was released today, July 13, 2021. Three smartphone models are shown that show a lot of similarities with the Galaxy S21 line-up.
The front is on all three patented Samsung Galaxy smartphones identical. It is a mobile phone with narrow screen edges and a centrally placed punch-hole selfie camera – similar to the S21 line-up. The rear is designed differently on all three models.
The most basic model has a dual camera, which is located in the top left corner. The camera island is fused with the frame on the side and top. The format of the camera lenses also appears to be identical to the current S-series models.
The second model that Samsung has patented is equipped with extra cameras. This time we see four cameras placed one below the other. No additional sensors or a laser AF are visible. All four camera lenses are the same size.
Finally, a third model has also been registered, this device shows the most similarities with Apple in terms of design. Just like with the iPhone 12 series, a square camera system has been chosen that is situated in the top left corner. This smartphone model is also equipped with four large camera lenses.
In terms of design, the second model seems to be more in line with Samsung’s design philosophy than the latter model, but that is an aside. The LED flash is not visible on the patent images. With the Galaxy S21, Samsung has chosen to place the flash to the right of the camera island. Logically, this will also be the case with the models we are discussing today.
The top and bottom of the mobile phone is identical to that of the Samsung S21. The bottom has a SIM card compartment, a microphone, a USB-C connection and a speaker. A second microphone is placed at the top.
It remains unknown for the time being whether Samsung will officially present the patented models. For example, it is not inconceivable that this concerns design variants of the already available S21 series, which Samsung will no longer release. Strikingly enough, no model is shown with three camera lenses – as is the case with the S21/S21+.
Another possibility is that Samsung wants to use these designs for the Galaxy S22 series. Presumably, three models will be announced again, in addition to a standard model, there will also be a Plus and an Ultra model. However, it will take another half year before the Samsung S22 line-up is officially introduced, in the coming months more will undoubtedly become known about the expected S-series models.
In any case, it is not about the design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition). This smartphone is expected next month during Galaxy Unpacked 2021, the S21 FE will be the cheapest S-series model in 2021. However, the design of this device is already known and does not match the patent images.
