The Gabonese selection withdrew from the U20 women’s world qualifiers through a press release published on 1is October 2023.
The Gabonese U20 women’s football team will no longer participate in the World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Colombia in 2024. The decision was taken by the Gabonese Football Federation (Fegafoot). According to the press release which discusses the reasons for its withdrawal from this major competition, there is an absence of a regular national championship in the category. The decision was taken after in-depth “reflection” on the formula for the next championship, specifies the federation which adds that this withdrawal will not result in sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Finally, Fegafoot added through its press release that the money which was to be used for Gabon’s participation will be invested for the development of local women’s football. Remember that the list of 30 preselected for these qualifiers had been made public in order to best prepare for the meeting on October 6 against Eswatini.
