My husband and I usually do really good at making ends meet. We’ve never lost electricity, we’ve always had water, and until now we’ve been able to get groceries taken care of. It might be tight, or even negative, until the next payday, but we always pulled it off.
Recently I became a stay at home mom. My Grami has been babysitting my babies for the past 8 years. She’s been battling cancer off and on for at least ten years, but she’s usually felt good and got through just fine, and made sure she still kept my babes. About a month ago, she fell. It wasn’t her first fall, but it was the first one that made her stop and think if she fell while she had my babies, she wouldn’t forgive herself. So we made the hard decision to not have her babysit anymore. That landed me at home, and my husband the sole provider. I didn’t make anywhere near enough to pay a daycare at my last job, and I wasn’t going to get that kind of raise. They let me stay home and do marketing on social media, but I only make $40 a week.
I’ve started making a lot of things I can at home, from chicken nuggets to my son’s breakfast sandwiches, I’ve even got on Pinterest to see how to make laundry soap for cheaper than buying it at the store, and feeding my one chicken canned food from the food pantry.
I’ve been utilizing the food pantry for a while to cover the difference even when I was working, but they don’t supply formula, or diapers and wipes, and very rarely is there meat available.
So I’m here asking for help. I went and made a Walmart grocery list in the app, and for two weeks worth of groceries (almost three), my total was $181.03, and I have $2.31 in my bank account.
If I could even get half of it covered and just get through the next week, I’d be beyond thankful.
I know in this pandemic there are so many more who are doing worse off than my family, and if you have the means to help one or the other, I’d hope you’d help those less fortunate, but if you’re willing and able, my little family would appreciate it more than words can describe.
