Fuenlabrada Case: A Coruña’s complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office sees possible reckless conduct of the League | Radio Coruña

He A Coruña City Council will report tomorrow to the Chief Prosecutor of the Provincial Court of A Coruña the so-called Fuenlabrada Case, the trip of this football club to the city, despite the fact that four of its members had to stay in Madrid after testing positive for coronavirus and without waiting for the results of the latest PCR tests, carried out just before the displacement. The mayor, Inés Rey, will inform the prosecutor of all the facts in case they constitute a crime.

The local government of A Coruña understands that there may have been reckless conduct on the part of the Professional Soccer League that could cause numerous infections to other members of the team and to people with whom they had contact, in the means of transport and staying in the hotel, for example. For this reason, it demands that the Prosecutor’s Office open information proceedings to clarify facts with risk to public health.

Specifically, the Council claims all the information related to the tests and why the Professional Football League did not communicate in due time the positives of which it was aware. In that sense, it requests that the Prosecutor’s Office request from the Department of Health all the data it has on the case with the specific hours in which it received.

The mayor of A Coruña, Ines Rey, considers that the indications and facts that are known so far accredit reckless and negligent behavior on the part of the League, which created an evident health risk by not immediately communicating the source of contagion, which prevented the health authorities from adopting relevant isolation measures.

From warning to complaint at the Prosecutor’s Office

What yesterday morning was a warning from the mayor, Ines Rey, that they reserved “all the possibilities, including the judicial one,” became a certainty after becoming official, after eight in the afternoon, that six active positives had traveled with the team. These are the ones detected by the Galician Health Service (Sergas) after practicing about fifty PCR tests among the team members.

There is a lot of anger in the Council, and especially in the mayoress herself because of how this situation has developed. Inés Rey found out from the media about the cancellation of the match and did not know anything about the positives despite the fact that, according to the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG), she is a Health Authority.

All political groups with representation in María Pita support the council in the actions and demonstrations that have been taking place since yesterday.

Tebas, persona non grata?

Atlantic Tide has registered a proposal to declare Javier Tebas, the president of the League, persona non grata in A Coruña, understanding that he is ultimately responsible for authorizing Fuenlabrada’s trip to the city, despite knowing since Saturday that there were positives in the team that had to stay in Madrid.

He has also accused him of hiding the information from the Health Department until eight in the afternoon and of putting the public health of the people of Coruña at risk.

Initiatives in the Congress of Deputies

He BNG, for its part, has registered an initiative in the Congress of Deputies in which urges the Ministry of Health to investigate compliance with health protocols on the trip from Fuenlabrada to A Coruña.

The nationalists consider that it is an irresponsible and negligent behavior on which responsibilities must be purged, mainly in the organization, which corresponds to the Professional Football League. He also wants to know the role of the Higher Sports Council.
