Frp, Erlend Wiborg | FRP wants to send Norwegian police to Ukraine’s borders

The party proposes that Norway spend NOK 5 billion on assistance to Ukraine’s neighboring countries, and that personnel from the Police Immigration Unit and the Directorate of Immigration be sent to the border areas, for example in Poland.

It will ensure both better border control so that the authorities have control over who is admitted, as well as protect refugees from abuse by human traffickers or others, Frp believes.

– They can assist with the registration of refugees. Today, there are many people with dishonest intentions who pick up refugees along the border, says FRP’s immigration policy spokesman Erlend Wiborg to NTB.

Concerned Police Director

Wiborg believes Norwegian personnel at the border can help make it more difficult for human traffickers to transport people without being caught.

He refers, among other things, to police director Benedicte Bjørnland’s statements in Dagbladet. There, she expresses concern that Ukrainian refugees are being trafficked.

– We believe there is an increased risk for that. Without going into detail, we know that women and girls will be vulnerable to exploitation, both in working life, such as in cleaning professions and food production, but also begging and prostitution, says Bjørnland to Dagbladet.

Bjørnland says the police are now closely following websites where sex is sold in Norway. In addition, information gathering has escalated as a result of the war.

– Must take immediate action

Wiborg believes the government must take action.

– I share the concerns of the police director and now the government must take immediate action and stop the chaotic conditions we see. The government must stop considering measures, now is the time for actual action, says the FRP politician.

– The registration in Norway must be significantly faster. This is solved by being able to register at all the country’s police stations, but also by having all Ukrainians with biometric passports automatically receive a residence and work permit, says Wiborg.

Right: Important to contribute

The Conservative Party’s immigration policy spokesperson, Mari Holm Lønseth, says that it is the government that is best suited to assess needs and conditions for what Norway can contribute to the crisis.

– It is important that Norway contributes to avoiding human trafficking and exploitation of people in vulnerable situations, both here at home and at the borders, Lønseth says to NTB.

– I assume that the government continuously considers various measures to combat human trafficking, for example by sending police or representatives from the immigration authorities, says Lønseth.

She says that in that case it must be weighed against the fact that the police and the immigration authorities must have enough resources here at home.

NTB has not been able to get a comment on the case from Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp).
