From Warsaw to Krakow in just over an hour? PKP PLK plans to modernize the line

Increasing the speed of trains running on the Central Railway Main Line to 250 km / h is to enable work on the Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie line. The tender in this matter was announced by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe – the railway infrastructure manager informed.

The tender announced by PLK covers track works and regulation of the traction network at CMK and adjacent slip roads. Train traffic will be maintained during the works. For the smooth passage in selected locations, the rails, sleepers and ballast cleaning are planned.

As PLK informs, the value of the tender is approximately PLN 200 million. The investment will result in shorter travel times by train in long-distance routes between Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice and Wrocław, and an improvement in the attractiveness of connections from the Świętokrzyskie and Łódź regions.

Currently, on the route of the Central Railway Main Line, among others road viaducts.

According to PLK, at the end of 2023, after completing the necessary works and launching the ERTMS / GSM-R communication system and the ETCS level 2 system, trains are planned to run at a speed of up to 250 km / h on the CMK line.
