The celebration of Moscow’s Forshtat district “…like a free man!” will be the summer’s most diverse cultural event in Miera Garden, located between Katoļi, Kalupes, Daugavpils and Jēkabpils streets.
From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., together with the students of the “Contemporary dance art” study program of the Latvian Academy of Culture, there will be an opportunity to participate in the morning activity. From 12:00, throughout the day, you will be able to watch demonstrations of the Riga Circus School and participate in creative workshops, including the making of masks and posters “Create as free”. In honor of this, three courage marches “Be like a free man!” will also take place.
On the other hand, from 1 p.m. street sports demonstrations “Sport as free” will be shown, followed by street sports training led by professionals. On the conversation and performance stage “Speaking as free” from 2 p.m., a courage conversation and performance with Ukrainian artists will take place – a concert by bandurist Darja Leleko and friends.
After that, a discussion is expected “What is the Moscow suburb and what should it be?”, with the participation of neighborhood associations and representatives of the Riga City Council. From 16.30 there will be poetry readings and a conversation with local poets Kārli Vērdiņa, Raimonda Ķirķi and Arvi Viguli. After them, the readings of historically significant speeches will be performed by Riga residents of various generations and professions. At the end, the performance “Women’s stand-up” is planned.
At 3:00 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m., an informative tour “Moscow Forstadt: History, People, Buildings and Churches” will be held under the guidance of guide Sergej Ivanchenko, gathering at the stage of talks and performances “Speaking as a Free One”.
From 15:00 on the main stage “Sing as free” the “Ukulele” concert “Uku and leles songs” will be played, the rap freestyle association “Brīvrunu projekts” will perform with the performance “Apkaimes legendas”, the hip-hop artist “Fiņķis”, the humor rock group “Primais kurs” will perform ” and singer “Boo”.
On the other hand, creative workshops, master classes, concerts, talks and exploratory tours are expected in Vērmanes garden, Viesturdārz, Mazjumprava manor and other places in the capital, and you will also be able to get to know the basics of a healthy lifestyle, participate in sports classes and play games. All organized cultural events are free of charge.
On Thursday, August 4, from 8 p.m., everyone is invited to enjoy music on the Vērmanes garden stage, where the group “Minuets”, which became popular as a performer of the music of the composer Imantas Kalniņš, will perform at the fifth park concert of moments of joy. Inese Pabērza, Adrians Kukuvass, Baiba Jagere, Normunds Puriņš, Juris Sējāns, Leons Sējāns, Raimonds Bartasevics and Ikars Rungis play music in the group.
Meanwhile, Viesturdārz will host a game night on August 6 from 5 p.m., where you can see the park anew as a place for spontaneous and diverse games, which is an attractive way to create a dialogue between guests of different walks of life and generations. The leader of the event will also be a moderator who will help you find a partner and get started with the activities.
On Wednesday, August 3, a solo concert by Kārlis Kazākas will be held in the Pļavnieku birch grove, where you will hear songs that the musician did not play last summer, when the music at Pļavnieku Stropa was interrupted by a broken tree during the concert.
Also on this day, the art center “Noass” will turn the AB dam into the epicenter of the moving image as part of the international video and contemporary art festival “Udensgabali”, inviting you to get to know the latest trends in the world of video art.
On Thursday, August 4, a meeting with certified fitness and healthy nutrition specialist Madara Meieris will be held at Čiekurkalnas 1. line 64. There will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the basics of a healthy lifestyle and participate in a sports lesson for the whole family, during which there will be demonstrations of exercises that everyone can do at home. Also, on this day and place, the project theater “Teātris un es” will take the young audience to the adventure show “Doggie and Cat”.
