From the lecture hall to your own four walls: the iMoox learning platform continues to grow

iMoox is the only platform that offers free and openly licensed courses in cooperation with partners from various educational areas. The project with roots in Graz is being expanded further.

“Mathe-Fit”, “Digitales Leben”, “25 Years of Austria in the EU: The Way of Styria from the Edge to the Center of Europe”. These are some of the most up-to-date, free courses on the Education platform iMoox Tobe offered. iMooX is one of many projects at Austrian universities as part of the digitization offensive of the Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF).

Free courses

´The aim of iMoox is to make knowledge freely accessible to a broad segment of the population. Participation and learning materials are free. Sufficient learning success is confirmed by means of a certificate.
In 2013 iMoox was founded by the University of Graz and the Technical University (TU) Graz. To this day it is the first and only MOOC platform in Austria. Free “Massive Open Online Courses”, ie freely accessible online courses on a wide variety of topics, can be stored on such platforms. Today the platform holds more than 100 courses for different interests, which are made available by more than 70 educational partners. In addition to Graz University of Technology, the University of Graz, the Pedagogical University of Styria and the MedUni Graz are also involved.

Digitization offensive

With the upswing from the digitization of learning driven by Covid-19 and a digitization offensive by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF), the platform is now being expanded.
The founder and project manager of iMoox is Martin Ebner, who also heads the teaching and learning technologies department at Graz University of Technology: “With the relaunch of our MOOCs platform presented today, we are laying the technical, organizational, logistical and media didactic basis for all Austrian Universities can offer any number of MOOCs on the platform. “
Under the direction of Graz University of Technology and the University of Vienna, it is to become the central learning point on the Internet – not just for students, but the entire interested society.

The mastermind behind iMooX is Martin Ebner, head of the teaching and learning technologies department at TU Graz.
