Fresh Express Salad Recall

The Fresh Express brand removes salads from the shelves that it markets because they could be contaminated by Cyclospora.

These products include Chipotle Cheddar, American, Thai and cashew, Vegetable lover, Crunchy Sunflower, Garden Iceberg, Shreds, Green and crisp, Asian, Southwest and Coleslaw. These products sold nationally in sizes ranging from 312 g to 680 grams should not be consumed.

Health Canada said in a statement on Sunday evening that no cases of contamination related to these salads have been reported so far.

Consumers who have one of these products should either throw it away or return it where it was purchased.

Cyclospora, which causes an intestinal disease called cyclosporosis, does not spread through human stool. When water or food comes into contact with the parasite, it can contaminate consumers. However, Cyclospora is not found in water in Canada and it is not common to find it in food.
