French Skier Cyprien Sarrazin Dominates Second Downhill World Cup in Kitzbuhel – Takes Close Second in Overall Standings

French skier Cyprien Sarrazin also dominated the second downhill of the World Cup in Kitzbühel.

In contrast to Friday’s narrow victory, Steif completely dominated today on the demanding slope and beat the second Marco Odermatt by almost a second.

“I can’t understand it all, it’s crazy,” he said in a TV interview, saying he was having the best time of his life. “I drove with my heart,” he added.

In the intermediate evaluation of the discipline, he came close to his Swiss opponent with a difference of only six points and made the fight for the small crystal globe even more dramatic.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sarrazin, who started focusing on speed disciplines only in recent years, scored his third downhill win of the season and career.

In the Austrian winter resort, he followed up on the December triumph in Bormio, last week he also added a victory in the super-G in Wengen.

On the Lauberhorn, the Gap native was second in both downhills behind Odermatt, who is also behind him in the overall SP standings.

He took to the track today in eighth place, and with a supremely aggressive performance, he beat Odermatt’s time by 91 hundredths.

At the same time, he beat the previous performance of his rivals by more than a second. The Italian Dominik Paris was the closest to both of them, losing 1.44 seconds to the winner.

Compared to Friday, Sarrazin was 2.79 seconds faster and with two wins in Kitzbühel he equaled the famous compatriot Luc Alphand, who triumphed twice in 1995.
