French President Emmanuel Macron Proposes Expanding Coalition to Combat Hamas

During his visit on Tuesday to Tel Aviv, French President Emmanuel Macron sent several messages, the most prominent of which related to an attempt to deter regional powers that appear to be involved in the conflict, which greatly threatens Western interests. In light of this, Macron proposed expanding the activity of the international coalition to combat ISIS to confront Hamas. also.

Experts who spoke to Sky News from France, Germany, and Jordan believed that what Macron stated was nothing more than an unrealizable proposal, and would be a matter of disagreement among the forces participating in the international coalition, considering it merely a message of deterrence to Iranian arms that represent a direct threat to Western interests in the Middle East region. .

What did Macron say?

On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed expanding the scope of the current international coalition fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria to also include the fight against Hamas in Gaza.

France is ready for the international coalition fighting ISIS, in which we participate in operations in Iraq and Syria, to also fight Hamas,” Macron told reporters while standing next to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

The French President considered that the war with Hamas, which has entered its 18th day, would be long, threatening the Lebanese Hezbollah to pay a heavy price if it entered the war alongside the Palestinian movement.

An excuse to target Hamas and other groups

Murad Al-Hattab, head of the Alliance for France party, says that Macron’s statements carry a degree of distortion because they are in line with the Israeli discourse that calls for equating all forms of Palestinian resistance with the international war against ISIS.

Al-Hattab added: “Macron is simply repeating the Israeli rhetoric of equating everything Palestinian with terrorism, to discredit the legitimate Palestinian cause. It is the result of a psychological process, which was the main goal of Israel’s war: convincing the West to agree to the most radical and fanatical reading of Israeli imperial expansion.”

Regarding the impact of Macron’s messages today on the conflict in Gaza, Al-Hattab explained that Israel “will feel free to act, and it feels comfortable about its right to commit a premeditated genocide, because France has just acquiesced to its speech and supported it.”

He continued, saying: “A speech that contradicts the previous French diplomacy until 2007, which was more balanced towards the Arab world.”

Al-Hattab noted that this could of course be used as a pretext to target other armed groups in the region.

A proposal that is not accepted

Jassim Mohammed, the security expert and head of the European Center for Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence Studies from Germany, says that what Macron stated is nothing more than a proposal.

Muhammad pointed out that this proposal was supposed to be presented within the coalition and discussed among the participating countries and not through the media.

Muhammad does not expect this proposal to find acceptance and agreement among the countries participating in the coalition.

Muhammad stated that “the conflict in Gaza is heading towards more complications in general, and there are possibilities to expand the circle of conflict to include regional parties, which is something that must be contained quickly.”

A funny approach between Hamas and ISIS

Saleh Al-Maaytah, a military and strategic expert, believes that what Macron stated is a wrong and perhaps funny approach, explaining that “Hamas is a resistance movement that has a political arm and a military arm, unlike ISIS, which is a terrorist movement with global consensus.”

Al-Maaytah pointed out that Israel “used the term ‘ISIS Sinai’ as part of the psychological war against Hamas from day one, and today Macron is adopting the Israeli position and expressing it in a wrong approach.”

Al-Maaytah concluded his speech to Sky News Arabia, saying: “Today the Israeli government faces a major political impasse, so Netanyahu is trying to move his battle outside Israel, which is what the Western powers supporting Tel Aviv are trying to implement. The repeated Western warnings in light of the deterrence attempt are not intended only for Hamas.” But the most important thing is to deter Iranian arms in the region, which represent a direct threat to American interests.”

A new diplomatic failure for Macron

Issam Makkawi, a security and strategic expert, said that Macron’s statements represent a new diplomatic failure and a blind adoption of the Israeli point of view.

According to Makkawi, the elimination of ISIS did not happen in the first place, and Macron is trying to summon the ability of the international coalition, claiming that he can confront Hamas in a completely wrong approach.

He stressed that there is a state of exaggeration of the role of regional powers such as Hezbollah and Iran, although the real danger lies in the continuation of the war in which many innocent people are killed daily, in addition to the political and geopolitical interactions that the region may witness in the near future as a result of this conflict.
