On Friday evening, December 4th, the two district associations of Freiburg and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald nominated Chantal Kopf as a candidate for the federal election in the Freiburg constituency in the Paulussaal in Freiburg. The Freiburg district chairman Chantal Kopf prevailed with 80 to 41 votes against her competitor Ibrahim Sarialtin, former city councilor of the Freiburg Greens. “I am very happy about the great support and the strong tailwind for the election campaign,” said Kopf. “There is an enormous amount at stake in the federal election. The next few years will see whether the Paris climate targets can still be achieved. This is one of the reasons why we Greens are fighting for a political leadership role in Germany. I’m looking forward to campaigning together with both district associations! “

The Greens want to bring climate protection to the fore not only in the federal election, but also in the upcoming state election campaign. For the super election year 2021, the Greens in the Freiburg area have repositioned themselves after the departure of Edith Sitzmann and Kerstin Andreae. “I am very happy about the successful reorganization in our constituencies”, said the Freiburg district chairman Gregor Kroschel. “We will now go into the election campaign with three strong women and a lot of fresh air. We want to use this optimistic mood to become the strongest force in the Freiburg constituency and to win the direct mandate ”.

In July 2020, the two district associations nominated their two candidates for the state elections in March 2021 with Nadyne Saint-Cast in the Freiburg-West constituency and Daniela Evers for the Freiburg-East constituency.

“With the nomination of the Bundestag candidate, we are ready to fight together here on site in the election year 2021 to set the necessary course for the future. Climate protection, the energy turnaround, but also coping with the social and economic consequences of the corona pandemic – we can decisively advance all of these issues with a strong green result, both at state and federal level, “Daniela Evers describes the objectives of the next Year.

The nomination meeting, which has already been postponed twice due to the pandemic, took place in the large Paulussaal in Freiburg due to the legal provisions. However, in order to do justice to the current pandemic situation, the members were given the opportunity to follow the meeting online and to come to the Paulussaal to vote after the introductions and questions from the candidates. Numerous members made use of this. The meeting was chaired by Jasmin Ateia, district board member in Freiburg, and Jakob Mangos, district board member in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district association, who strictly observed compliance with the hygiene concept. A mask requirement also applied to the permanently assigned seat. Around 60 members took part in attendance. The spaciousness of the Paulussaal with its large forecourt made it possible to wait for the vote with sufficient distance and also outdoors.
