Athletes in unusual clothing. “Tenü green” instead of racing suit or hockey equipment. This is how illustrious names make the best advertisement for the Swiss military. NHL star Nico Hischier (21) or ski freestyler Andri Ragettli (21) are just two of the well-known names.

In addition to military training, the sports recruits also complete a medical service, are trained in nutritional science or take the military sports leadership course. “You learn something for life here,” says Hischier, the striker of the New Jersey Devils, who is now using this Corona summer for the 18-week top-class sport RS.

This is how you feel as a woman in the “green menu”
Bobsleigh pilot Melanie Hasler is one of 16 women currently in Magglingen. She also benefits from the optimal conditions, devotes herself to strength training, sprints and jumps, or even pushes a roll bob. “These perfect conditions here help me to make it to the top of the world,” says the 22-year-old. How do you feel as a woman in the “green menu”? “Strong,” laughs Hasler, “tough with this suit. And honored that you can be here. Because the selection and application process is not easy. »

Ragettli, the exceptional talent in his sport, also made the entry. The freeski ace trains high above Lake Biel together with 17 other ski or snowboard freestylers, “this is how we can measure ourselves in training,” says the blond boy mischievously. He also wants to make good advertising for the Swiss military – and has already done so impressively: with one of his famous and popular parcours videos.

With the military edition, however, the 21-year-old has exceeded even the highest expectations. In uniform he crawled under poles, climbed over walls, balanced on a slackline and was finally carried away by his comrades on the stretcher. Everything had to be well prepared, “and above all, military-compliant,” says Ragettli. But the effort was worth it: «The clip was viewed over 42 million times!»
