Comedian Freek de Jonge would hand over a bed in intensive care (ic) to a younger person. He doesn’t know if he would like to go to IC anyway, he tells Tim Hofman in the latest episode of the #BOOS Anti Corona Depression Podcast.
“I like to make room for someone else,” says De Jonge in conversation with Hofman. “I think a younger person is leading the way right now.”
De Jonge has also discussed the subject with his wife Hella. “Is there any point in going to IC?” He wonders aloud. “As I understand, about 50 percent of the people who go there don’t survive. And another half of the survivors are damaged for the rest of their lives,” said the 75-year-old theater maker.
De Jonge still feels healthy, but indicates that he is not afraid of death. “I don’t have to be afraid, I am not at the beginning of my life. If my life would end tomorrow, I would be satisfied with that,” said De Jonge.
He is aware that he belongs to the risk group and could catch the virus. “Certainly, it is possible. But I have led my life. And every day there is one again, I enjoy everything very much. And also in this time, there is a lot to learn about our existence and what turn it has taken. Maybe we should adjust the course and I am of course very curious about how that goes and whether it goes. “
