Frankenbahn is to be expanded throughout

The state of Baden-Wrttemberg plans to include the entire route between Heilbronn, Lauda and Wrzburg in its investigation into the expansion and modernization of the Frankenbahn. The head of the Ministry of Transport, Uwe Lahl, made this clear in a letter to District Administrator Reinhard Frank. Before that, there was the impression that the country only wanted to take the section of the route from Heilbronn to Osterburken and thus especially ignore the part in the Main-Tauber district. On the other hand, District Administrator Frank had written to the Ministry of Transport, according to his press release.

In his answer, Lahl writes: “Our internal considerations for the report have now progressed. The examination area should go from Heilbronn to Wrzburg to take the opportunity to examine this rail route in its entirety by means of a comprehensive timetable and acceleration study. In my opinion, this is because the growing importance of the route, which is part of the Trans-European Railway Network (TEN) as a basic network route, is therefore also a sensible option. Please be assured that it is our common goal to achieve substantial improvements on the entire Heilbronn Wrzburg route. “

“The news from Ministerialdirektor Lahl is particularly important in connection with the irritation surrounding the Go-Ahead railway company,” added the responsible department head Jochen Mssig from the district office in the announcement. The state has announced that Go-Ahead will cease operating the regional express train between Stuttgart and Wrzburg for two years due to a lack of reliability. “The message from the Ministry of Transport shows that the country is sticking to the further development of the Frankenbahn despite the soon planned change of operator,” says Mssig.
