French health authorities see no reason to stop using the vaccine against the new coronavirus of AstraZeneca, said Health Minister Olivier Veran, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

“The benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh the risks,” Veran told a weekly government briefing on the coronavirus.

Health authorities in Denmark, Norway and Iceland today stopped using the AstraZeneca vaccine after reports of blood clots in some of those vaccinated.

In the last 24 hours in France, the number of people with Covid-19 in intensive care units has increased by 74 people to 3922, which is the highest number for the last three and a half months.

In the last 24 hours, there have been 265 new deaths from the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 89,830, the seventh highest in the world.

The number of newly infected for the last day is 27,166, bringing the total number of infected to 3.990 million, the sixth highest number in the world. For comparison, yesterday the newly infected were 30,303, and a week ago – 25,279.

Veran said the situation in the Paris area was particularly worrying, with a large number of people in intensive care units. He said that if the pandemic in the area continues at such a pace, the government will take the “necessary measures” to control it.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will isolate himself after being in contact with a family member who tested positive for coronavirus, a foreign ministry official was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Seventy-three-year-old Le Drian will be tested tonight and again next Wednesday, a week after being in contact with the infected.

Today, Le Drian hosted a meeting with his counterparts from Germany, Jordan and Egypt on the Middle East peace process. Last night, he met with US Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry.
