France could follow Germany in terms of containment?

Summer holidays: the French will be able to go on vacation!

Indeed, all the conditions are there for the French to go on vacation this summer.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced the abolition of the limit of 100 km around the home, but also the opening of places such as campsites very frequented by the French during this period, as well as the opening of borders in Europe.

Conditions which will start to be applied from June 2…

Although Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that deconfinement will be an opportunity for everyone to “breathe” a little after this very difficult test of confinement, one would have imagined that the French and the French would have rushed to reserve vacation from the first government announcements. But what about in reality?

Will the campsites be visited this summer? Will the French travel more than usual?

Although we do not yet have the answer in detail, preliminary elements show that the French, against all odds, are not yet ready to go on vacation. Indeed, there is still a lot of uncertainty as to what will happen next, and we are not immune to a second phase of confinement although the coronavirus health crisis has weakened in recent weeks. It is indeed very legitimate to ask questions concerning a possible containment again: what would happen if the French government decided in the middle of summer to backtrack and to decree a new containment at short notice? Will French people who are abroad or at campsites be able to return home in this case? We imagine that this uncertainty provokes a lot of reactions and questions from the French population who wonder if going on vacation is really a good idea or not…

Summer holidays: the first departures outside of France are already planned!

However, some French families have already planned to go on vacation and even go beyond the French borders this summer, although this is a priori limited to Europe.

Indeed, some other countries like Morocco, which is very coveted by the French in summer, have announced that the borders will not open before July. But according to a survey revealed a few days ago by the tour operator Liligo, French people are ready to take the plane and leave France this summer to take a little vacation. Figures that are opposite to an OpinionWay study published just before Prime Minister Edouard Philippe’s announcements that only one quarter of French people would be ready to go on vacation : but what will it really be?

Is it an announcement effect to reassure future travelers and to encourage them to fly away from France? We should have the first answers in the coming weeks, because at the moment no one knows if the airports will be full or not. But where could the French go? Well, according to the survey, the population would largely prefer to stay in France, and for the rest leave for Europe, although some are even seen going beyond European borders. Regarding the mode of transport to get to the vacation spot, many French people say they are ready to fly according to the Liligo poll relayed by LCI, and others think of taking their car.

Far behind, we find the train and carpooling, which would then be the big losers in the transport chosen by the French for going on vacation this summer. Again, we cannot predict whether these statements will happen like this or not and we should have the first answers in the coming weeks. All the companies on the market remain very cautious on these subjects because we are not immune to a bad surprise…

Of course, if the confinement was still there during the summer, this would be problematic for the economy, but also for the French portfolio and tourism professionals. We will have to cross our fingers so that the confinement is no longer there, but if the French comply with all the health regulations, we will have a chance to eradicate the coronavirus. It is currently impossible to know if France will decide to establish containment. In any case, Germany is lifting restrictions more and more, because a canton has been able to regain its freedom. If, however, the country were to consider containment, it would probably not be that of March.
