Possible collision of an asteroid with Earth on November 2, 2020!

Tuesday, June 30: Asteroid Day. VP1 2018 could hit Earth this November.

June 30th is International Asteroid Day. Asteroids and comets (near-Earth objects) are astronomical objects whose orbits pass close to Earth and therefore potentially pose a threat to our planet. They are closely monitored by the “NASA Center for the Investigation of Near-Earth Objects”. To date, around 16,000 objects close to the earth have been discovered. Among these 16,000 near-earth objects is VP1 2018, i.e.it could collide with Earth on November 2, 2020.

An asteroid is a celestial body made of stones and metals, the size of which can range from a few centimeters to several kilometers. The birth of the asteroids goes back to the origins of our solar system 4.56 billion years ago. To date, the most commonly accepted hypothesis is that they result from rock fragments that could not agglomerate into a planet.

Should we be afraid of VP1 2018?

VP1 2018 is a near-Earth asteroid because it traverses Earth’s orbit. It was discovered on November 3, 2018. According to NASA experts, VP1 is 2018 91 centimeters wide, 2 meters long and weighs 15 kilos. Because of its small size, the asteroid will most likely burn up as soon as it enters the Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrates before it even reaches the ground. According to experts, VP1 has 2018 a 1: 240 chance on November 2ndto meet planet earth.

VP1 2018 is not a real threat in the eyes of scientists. But another asteroid appears far more dangerous to the experts! With a diameter of 8 meters, the 2010 RF12 could cause serious damage in the event of a collision with the earth. Fortunately, the impact to Earth is not planned until 2095, so we have enough time to prepare for it.

June 30: Memorial day for the explosion of Tunguska

On December 6, 2016, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A / RES / 71/90 and declared June 30 International Asteroid Day. The aim is “to commemorate the anniversary of the Tunguska explosion on June 30th, 1908 every year and internationally to raise awareness of the risks of the effects of asteroids“.

The Tunguska asteroid is still the largest known asteroid that has struck Earth. A memorable explosion occurred in Northern Siberia on June 30, 1908. While many people are still wondering what could have caused this explosion, the scientists agree thatthat was the result of an asteroid impact.

This mysterious explosion in the very remote area has partly set fire to the Siberian forest. The explosion spread over a radius of more than 1,000 kilometers, and 80 million trees were destroyed by the explosion.
