In Drenthe, 4,000 people got cancer in 2019. This is reported by the Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland (IKNL), a day before World Cancer Day.

The most common types of cancer in Drenthe were skin cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer. The number of cancer patients has increased in recent years due to population growth and aging.
Two thousand new cancer cases extra
Last year 118,500 Dutch people were diagnosed with cancer, 2,000 more than in the year before. The total number is double that of 1990. The disease remains the most common cause of death in the Netherlands, but 65 percent of patients now survive. There are now 800,000 Dutch people who have or have had cancer.
Local and regional activities
On World Cancer Day tomorrow the impact of cancer will be considered worldwide. More than 220 organizations, such as walk-in homes, physiotherapists, psychologists and hospitals, jointly organize local and regional activities for people who are confronted with cancer in any way.
